KOMPAN playground equipment wins prestigious prize

KOMPAN has been awarded the Janus de L’Industrie by the French Institute of Design for the company’s development of the playground equipment Story Makers™.

Story Makers™ is a play concept based around four distinctive themes: Home, Ocean, Jungle and Rescue. It combines the traditional climbing and sliding activities of children with theme and role play, has been developed with interchangeable themed fronts that may be adapted according to the needs and wishes of users. The themed fronts allow children to play in a variety of different universes – one minute they are pirates on a pirate ship, the next they are playing house. All offer children aged 2 to 6 room to hide, climb, balance, slide and crawl while immersing themselves in a fantasy world.

This innovative concept, which combines the traditional climbing and sliding activities of children with theme and role play, has been developed with interchangeable themed fronts that may be adapted according to the needs and wishes of users. The themed fronts allow children to play in a variety of different universes – one minute they are pirates on a pirate ship, the next they are playing house.

    The award is based on five specific criteria – ergonomics, aesthetics, economy, ethics and emotion. The panel of experts justified its choice of KOMPAN as the prize winner in the following way: “We like the modular aspect of the product, which allows for different combinations. KOMPAN has created a product that encourages children to use their imagination, revitalises playgrounds and creates movement for all.”

    The KOMPAN Story Makers™ will be launched in Singapore at Gardentech 2007 exhibition, which takes place from 7-11 December 2007 at HortPark. Playpoint (Singapore) Pte Ltd is sponsoring one set of the KOMPAN Story Makers™ play equipment at the site for NParks.
